DESCRIPTION:

Theriac is a horror game developed in yoyoengine for the Acerola Jam 0.

You are a broke college student, newly diagnosed with brain cancer. It seems completely hopeless, until you receive a letter offering compensation for your time in a clinical trial- one that could also remove your brain tumor entirely.

With nothing else to lose, you sign up.

NOTE:

If you experience issues with the web version, please try refreshing, and downloading the native build if you still run into problems. I've done my best to bugsmash the web build, but the underlying technology is very different and is not playing nice with my engine just yet.

RESOURCES:

This game was build with yoyoengine, and is hosted on github.

The only 3rd party assets used have been from freesound and a few free textures found through Google images.

KNOWN ISSUES:

  • On Web, enemies spawn less often than the native builds (I have no idea why, lol).
  • On Web, the film grain effect has been disabled due to stack size limitations
  • On Web, the corners of visual overlays will clip into visual, since lower framerates cause the syncing of their positions to happen slower.

I really enjoyed the way controla are integral to the story/character, it adds to the atomsphere of the story and horror. Well done!

Thank you! If I had more time I planned on emphasizing the gradual monstrification more with increasingly chaotic keybinds.
